Thinning at Deer Park Wood

A sign of Spring on the way…

At this time of year, we have contractors in the wood, selectively cutting out the less successful trees. The best representative specimens are left with more space, light and air. This year, we also hired a chipper for two days, which makes the task of clearing the brash and cut timber much easier for us.

Good job the chipper has tracks – wheels would sink deep into the mud.
Very wet…
During cutting
The chipper making short work of branches
Larger logs are left for us to deal with.
The chippings are moved to the muddy path…
…much easier to walk on!
Keeping fit in our outdoor gym…
…and lots of logs are the result .
