April 21st – 22nd 2017: Nature Survey at Deer Park Wood
We had glorious sunshine for our Nature Day, and around 140 people took part in the activities on the programme below. Many families came from our neighbouring Deer Park Estate, including a fair proportion for whom visiting the wood was a new experience.
2015 – 2016- 2017
We noticed some time ago that one of the fields south of Range Road, the site of planned new housing, is a wonderfully diverse mature meadow.
Teams of volunteers have been rescuing orchids (bee and pyramidal) from the bulldozers and planting them in our wild flower meadows in Deer Park wood for the past three years. We have barrowed over a ton of turves for transplanting in Deer Park Wood – fingers are crossed that they survive the ordeal!

David Cameron, our MP, visited Deer Park Wood to plant a tree and install a Bee World plaque on March 6th. We also welcomed representatives of firms on the industrial estate to the west of the wood, who planted their own trees. After a pretty damp winter, we had a fine day, much appreciated by all..
